At a public meeting Monday night, Fort St. John city staff showed a balanced proposed Operating Budget, along with a slight tax increase, to a crowd of about 20 members of the public and fellow city workers. I really enjoyed the wonderful conversations with FSJ residents and appreciated all the questions, ideas, and comments.

As I drove to Dawson Creek and back today for Peace River Regional District meetings, I was overwhelmed once again with the amount of traffic on the road. At one point I met 26 vehicles one right after the other. And it wasn't because they were stuck behind a big truck - it was just that busy! It was a reminder to me of how imperative it is that our roads and highways be improved, to allow industry to move effectively, transportation of good to flow freely, and residents and tourists to travel safely!
I had no idea that my City Council life would be so full of meetings, events, and more meetings. This has been an exciting time of Council Meetings, special events, and conversations with various industry representatives, community groups, and organizations. It is busy and I am loving it! This is an exciting time of activity and growth in our region, and I am so glad to see our City Council, along with staff, working effectively together to lead us forward as a community!
Spent an enjoyable evening with the members of our FSJ Fire Department on Friday evening at their Christmas Dinner. I am so proud of our emergency services personnel! We thank them and their families for their commitment and service to our community.
On Thursday, City Council met with the Board of Education from our own School District #60 (Peace River North). It was especially exciting for me, having served on the Board of Education for the past 6 years, to attend and listen now from the perspective of a City Councillor. It is great to see these two elected bodies work together. I hope there are many partnerships between City and School District in our future!
_This week I enjoyed several inspirational visioning sessions regarding the potential Community Sport Celebration project at the Pomeroy Sports Centre. I was reminded that there are so many reasons to be proud of our community!
_I have been appointed by City Council as Alternate Director on the Peace River Regional District Board. I took the oath of office at the Inaugural Meeting of the Board on Friday, December 9th. It is truly an honour, a privilege, and an awesome responsibility!
_It is important for VOTERS to know that you are NOT obligated to vote for 6 Councilor positions. Some people simply vote for names they recognize just to fill the 6 Councillor positions. The truth is that you can Vote for a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 6 on your ballot. So vote only for those you believe will be effective as a Councillor. Please VOTE either on Wednesday Nov. 16th or Saturday, Nov. 19th at the Pomeroy Sports Centre. The polls are open 8:00AM - 8:00PM.
_Just got home from a wonderful Remembrance Day Ceremony and lunch at the Fort St. John Legion. It is so humbling to think about those many ordinary people who have become extraordinary heroes, having given their lives for us. May we honour them always and never forget the sacrifice they have made, and continue to make on our behalf.
Had an exciting, humbling, and somewhat bizarre occurrence this morning of going to vote in the Municipal Election. No, it wasn't the first time I have voted. But it is the first time my own name appeared on the Ballot! A weird and awesome experience to vote for myself. But it felt right! It was the right choice! Did everyone hear that? It was the right choice to vote Gord Klassen! get out there and vote on November 19th (or at the Advance Polls on November 16th).
